How to fix common wiper blade problems
Vehicle owners hardly give any thought to their wiper blades when they are not in use. Interestingly, these components are among the most important when it comes to your safety during storms.
It is very possible for your wiper blades to develop problems regardless of how new they are. The question here is what do you do to fix such problems? While we cannot discuss every wiper blade-related problem in this post, we will enumerate the most common. We will also explain how you can solve these problems without external help.
Smearing in two directions
Have you noticed that sometimes, your wiper blades smear water in two directions? If this is happening, it could be the result of any of the following:
- Sup-par wiper fluid.
- Dirty wiper blade or windshield.
- Worn wiper blades.
The first thing to do when you notice such smears is to clean your wiper blades using wiper fluid. You should also clean the windshield to get rid of debris or dirt particles. To begin with, clean the wiper blades with warm soapy water and a clean cloth. After this, wipe the blade with some rubbing alcohol. Doing this should help you get rid of the smears. If it doesn’t, then you should change the wiper blades.
Water smearing in one direction
If you have been driving for a while, then you must have experienced this. Water smearing in one direction mostly occurs during the cold season. To be factual, there is very little that you can do to stop this.
However, if you are experiencing this issue during the warm season, then it should be a cause for concern. It is possible that your wiper blades are:

Inspect the wiper blades for any damage to the rubber part. If there is damage, you need new blades. However, if you notice that the wiper arm is bent, try to fix it using a pair of pliers.
