Tips to Extend your Wiper Blades’ Life

Not many drivers put thought into caring for their windshield wiper blades. These features are arguably one of the least cared for on any vehicle despite being so vital. Most drivers don’t even know when their wiper blades need a change. They only figure this out when caught in a storm or blizzard and their wiper blades aren’t functioning optimally.

As we mentioned earlier, windshield wipers need replacement at least twice every year. However, you can extend your wiper blades’ life span by carrying out certain simple processes. We will show you some of these processes in this section.

Keep the blades clean

When last did your clean your windshield wiper blades? You probably can’t remember except if you count washing your car as cleaning your wipers. Well, they are not the same thing because you don’t concentrate your efforts on cleaning the blades.

It is time to clean your wiper blades once you notice that they are leaving streaks on the windshield. Cleaning your windshield wipers is a very simple process. All you need is a clean towel and some rubbing alcohol. The steps below will guide you:

Step 1: Lift the wiper blades off the windshield gently until they snap in place.

Step 2: Dip the clean towel in some rubbing alcohol.

Step 3: Wipe the blades from one end to another in a back and forth motion.

Step 4: Use a clean towel to clean the wiper blades afterward.

Step 5: Drop the wiper blades back to their natural position on the windshield gently.

Doing this helps to prevent dirt or debris build-up on your wiper blades. Leaving them without cleaning will not only cause streaks but could also scratch your windshield. Note that you should also clean your windshield frequently with clean water or glass cleaner and a clean towel.

Check the rubber

The rubber on your wiper blade covers a thin metal sheet. After a while, this metal sheet is exposed due to wear and tear. Clear the ice
