How to Install a New Pair of Wiper Blades

Experts suggest that you replace your wiper blades every six months. Another expert advice is that you replace your wipers in pairs. The reason is that when one stops functioning optimally, it is only a matter of time before the second gets bad. That being said, here’s a step-by-step process on how to install a new pair of wiper blades:

Step 1: Clean your windshield

After you have stepped out to purchase a new pair of wiper blades, it is time to install them. Don’t just get on with your business, you should carry out some simple hygiene first. Begin by cleaning your windshield. Doing this helps you to get rid of dust or debris that may be on the surface.

Step 2: Protect your windshield

Installing new wipers involves removing the old blades from the wiper arms. The wiper arms can drop back to the windshield forcefully and cause damage. To avoid this, we suggest that you cover your windshield with a clean towel. This helps to protect your windshield against costly damage.

Step 3: Lift the existing wiper blades

The natural position of the wiper blades is lying flat across the windshield. You cannot remove them or install new ones in this position. Gently lift the wiper blades from the windscreen until they reach about 90 degrees and snap in place.

Step 4: Remove the wiper blades

Disconnect the existing wiper blades from the wiper arms. Find the clip holding the blade and disconnect it. Alternatively, slide down the arms to unhook the blades from them. Don’t forget to be careful all through this stage as the arms may snap back down to damage the windshield.

Step 5: Connect your new wiper blades

Follow the same process in step 4 only in reverse this time. After connecting the new wiper blades, drop the arms back onto the windshield gently. Congratulations, you have just installed a new pair of wiper blades.
